Terastallization
Change a Pokemon's type mid battle, if you have the shards for it
Terastallization turns a Pokemon into its Tera Type for the rest of the battle. Its type changes, moves of that type hit harder, and it wears a crown of crystal while the effect lasts.
Unlike the other gimmicks, this one costs you something every time. You spend shards.
What you need
You wear the Tera Orb in your offhand. Your Pokemon holds nothing.
The Tera Orb is craftable, so getting the ability to Terastallize at all is a one time job. What you spend afterwards is shards.
The shard cost
Terastallizing spends Tera Shards of the type you want, and it spends them every time rather than once per Pokemon.
It is not a small number, so pick the type before you commit to it.
Where shards come from
Shards drop from battles, so the way to afford a Tera Type is to go and fight things.
Stellar is far rarer than the rest, and deliberately so. It is the type that hits everything for extra damage the first time each type is used, which makes it the one worth saving for.
The 19 Tera Types
Every type has its own shard, plus Stellar.

Tera Hats and the glow
Tera Hats are on here, so a Terastallized Pokemon wears the crystal crown of its Tera Type rather than only glowing. There is a hat model for all 18 types.
The Tera Glow effect marks a Pokemon that is currently under the Terastal effect, so you can tell at a glance which side of the field has already used theirs.
Storing shards
The Tera Pouch is craftable and comes in every dye colour. Shards stack up fast once you are farming them, and a pouch keeps them out of your inventory.
